Why We Selected This Coffee
At Ogni Roasters, we seek coffees that express place, cultivar, and craftsmanship with clarity rather than excess. This Sudán Rumé embodies that philosophy—an exceptionally rare coffee that rewards attentive brewing with remarkable elegance, evolving complexity, and a sensory experience that lingers long after the final sip. It is a coffee that invites exploration, offering new layers of botanical, floral, and citrus character with every brew.
A rare expression of botanical elegance, where floral aromatics, vibrant citrus, and refined herbal complexity unfold in remarkable harmony.
Few coffees in the world command the respect of Sudán Rumé, and fewer still originate from Café Granja La Esperanza (CGLE). Produced at Las Margaritas Farm in the mountains of Caicedonia, Valle del Cauca, Colombia, this single-farm, single-variety microlot represents one of CGLE's coveted Competition Selections—lots reserved from the highest fraction of each harvest for exceptional quality and sensory distinction.
Originally collected from the Boma Plateau of present-day South Sudan, Sudán Rumé is celebrated not only for its rarity but also for its extraordinary aromatic character. While often compared to Gesha for its elegance, Sudán Rumé offers a distinctly different experience, emphasizing botanical freshness, layered citrus, and tea-like refinement rather than overt tropical florals.
The exact processing method varies by harvest and is not specified for this particular Competition Selection. Regardless of process, CGLE's meticulous cultivation and post-harvest standards allow the cultivar's remarkable clarity and complexity to take center stage.
In the Cup
Expect an expressive and evolving profile where white florals, chamomile, bergamot, mandarin, and citrus blossom lead into delicate notes of lemongrass, fresh mint, eucalyptus, ginger, and green tea. Layers of peach, apricot, raspberry, vanilla, honey, and light brown sugar sweetness provide balance, while a silky, tea-like body carries the cup into an exceptionally long finish that gracefully transitions from bright citrus to elegant herbal spice.
